They stopped supporting Norton Utilities and activating online legitimate perpetual versions of this program

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
After several years using a Norton Utilities license for three computers, acquired from the Symantec / Norton website, the company stopped activating the product online, preventing its use. It is a perpetual license, acquired with a receipt, which has always worked. Upon contacting the company's support, the attendant informed that they no longer support this product. That I should complain about in a user forum. It really causes indignation to hear this. I am not asking for use or new version support. Only that I have the right to use what I paid. Not activating a legitimate product, purchased and with a receipt, to force the purchase of a new version, is unethical. Bad conduct with client. I will never buy any product from this company again. I encourage other people not to do it, too.I have been a user for 28 years, since the first versions of the product. I expected more from this company. I will systematically contraindicate it to friends and colleagues. Be careful when purchasing perpetual licenses from this company. Prefer companies that are serious and committed to customers.

Suspision of Norton Database Hacked

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Norton Subscribers Beware! I was trying to update my Norton today and noticed I could not log on to my account anymore! I called Norton, and they indicated they cannot identify my account with my username! I went through multiple layers at Norton/Symantec, and they claim I have a different username. I just paid for my renewal in June 2020, everything working OK until today 9-25-20. I gave them my renewal order number, and they found it, but they had different user information in their system and no records of my account (which I've used for over 10 years). They had no explanation, thus it appears to me that their system has been hacked. Hackers have stolen their source code in the past (2006), so users be wary!! I took no chances and uninstalled their software and cancelled my account with them--they fully refunded my subscription and I have gone to a more reputable software system.

Do NOT buy Norton anymore.

We've used Norton for years. We bought Norton at a local store, and paid for it in full. Symantec refuses to let us install it, unless we give them a credit card for them to charge for an upgrade in one year, when this one is done. That's ridiculous! We are returning Norton for a refund. This was all verified in a long chat with a Norton representative, who confirmed Norton will not install, even when fully paid for, unless you give them a credit card for them to charge next year. We have never done this, because buying direct from Norton always gets the worst price buy far (actually 2 to 3 times higher than from local stores). Also, there are many people complaining on the Internet of over charging and double charging. I told the customer representative we are switching to McAfee. He said there is nothing he can do to help us. Symantec seems to have forgotten that you can't force your customers to buy things. You have to sell them, because we customers have the money and the choice of where to spend it. Some how Symantec has gotten a failing business model. Very sad.

Norton offers the ability to reject Auto Renewal. You need to call them.

The number is available when installing the software.

If you have a 10 user license, I advise to pay the yearly fee. It takes along time to buy a new license each year, register it, and then install it on the computer.

My annual Norton 360 with LifeLock subscription was up for renewal. I clicked an email link provided by Symantec Corporation to start the process. I went through renewal, clicked confirm, and an error message popped stating there was a problem. The message contained a number to call. I checked my bank account. There was a pending charge of $129.99 for the license. I called the number. After a 15 minute hold, I was connected to LifeLock support. I was told I needed Norton Support however, the CSR was able to log into my Norton account. Upon doing so, she saw that my subscription was up for renewal. I explained what had already happen. She told me she'd take care of it. Without my permission she reordered the renewal. Realizing her mistake, she cancelled the order she just placed. I checked my account. There was now 2 pending charges for $129.99. When I complained, I was told that my money would be released but it would take up to 10 days. I escalated to a supervisor. After being on hold for 20+ minutes, the supervisor repeated what the initial CSR said, 10 day wait until my money would be available. However, she suggested that I allow her to place another order, another $129.99, so I could get the license I had already paid for twice. This is the 2nd time in two months that Symantec Corporation has taken money from my account without my permission. The first time, even though I have my subscription set to not auto-renew, they did it anyway. When I complained, they issued a refund that took 15 days before the refund showed up on my credit card.

Do NOT Purcase LiveLock through Norton - Disaster Awaits

I made the mistake of using my old Norton account to purchase LifeLock. The basic plan included LifeLock and Notrton for $9.99 a month. I did not need or use Norton but when I clicked the "Remove" option for the Norton in the checkout cart it deleted both Norton and LifeLock. I subscribed for the Norton/LifeLock monthly package. I enrolled myself and my wife on Friday. I got my "Get Started Email" and set up everything. I downloaded Norton to my Mac desktop. The Norton downloaded and Icon appeared in my tray. Clicking it did nothing. Saturday, we tried suing the "Get Started Email" sent to my wife. She got logged in but would not let her do anything because it said she did not have a valid subscription and she needed to purchase one. We had already paid for both subscriptions on Friday. After about 4-hours on the phone being transferred back and forth between Norton and LifeLock at least 6 times I finally got the entire thing cancelled. LifeLock said I needed to cancel through Norton and then call LifeLock back. I did that and LifeLock said Norton did not cancel. I ended up going through the entire verification and cancellation process five times before getting everything fully cancelled. I will never trust anything with the Symantec name associated with it again. Avoid the nightmares of trying to deal with the total incompetence of the entire outfit.

Price Gouging of Auto Renew Customers of Norton software

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
In January of 2016 I purchased the Norton Internet Security software package, online for $49.99. At the time I was added to the "auto renewal" option which I do not remember selecting since I firmly believe auto renew is often a shady business practice. In December 2016 the auto-renew option kicked in and I was charged $89.99 for the same product that I had previously paid $49 for. A quick internet scan showed me the sale price on Norton's own website was a $39.99 promotion. I complained to Norton support who IMMEDIATELY dropped the price to $39.99 and issued me a refund. The support contact told me they apologized and the company was looking into this pricing tactic. A quick internet scan showed me that Symantec appears to have a long and shady history of price gouging their unsuspecting customers. In fact Gov. Cuomo of NY State successfully sued Symantec for similar practices. This price gouging is completely unbelievable and these practices should be illegal in all states. A company that charges their existing customers more than double their current promotion price is not only disgraceful but should be illegal. I implore the FTC to look into these shady pricing practices and make sure consumers are not getting screwed. I believe a class action lawsuit should get money for everyone that has been victimized by not noticing this happening. Absolute disgrace by a big corporation.

Over priced, p-poor support; N360 is resource hog

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
It's hard to believe that Symantec, with its long term name recognition and over priced fees, has degenerated to such a low level. N360 is a resource hogging joke, and time after time they pretend it's individual user problems. THOUSANDS of individual end users. Look at the reviews on CNET and PCMag. Users have to routinely shut down and re log in to get N360 to shut up. As i say, it's a joke. I'll NEVER buy another machine with Symantec pre-installed. NEVER. Use McAfee, or one of the highly touted 'free' AV's available.

The first thing everyone should do when they purchase a new computer is to go through and see what junk comes pre-installed and remove them, eg., anti-virus software, games, etc. One way to identify these "bloatware" programs is to use a free little program like pc decrapifier which you can get at:

pcdecrapifier.com

As an aside, whenever you uninstall any anti virus software you need to make sure you clean out ALL of it as some files tend to remain. Do a search for "norton clean uninstall" or "mcafee clean uninstall" for example and run the small clean uninstall program to totally get rid of what remains.

DONT BUY NORTON SECURITY PREMIUM

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
SUPPOSED TO BE EASY TO USE AND HAVE 25 GB STORAGE, but I am unable to access any of my files. I had the lesser plan in March, 2015. When unable to access my files in April, tech said i need to upgrade to security premium to get cloud storage so I did. She didn't mention she also canceled my automatic backups, so no backups since 4/10/2015. When unable to access files today Dec. 6,2015, I was connected to technician David obrero, who ascertained from his supervisor that 4/10/2015 really meant 10/4/2015. Not so, since below it said next scheduled backup was 12/26/2015 and there is no 26th month in existence in the USA. David found the backup and why they had been canceled and fixed that by remote control, but was unable to find or view andy individual file. I demanded to speak to Supervisor. At 4 pm, he said super would "call back soon." An hour and a half late, Supervisor Jeanine called. In addition to using an unpleasant tone, she didn't even know how to find my files or the remote website. She asked me to go to 3 different websites and sign in. I signed inthe first two, but they didn't have my files, so she asked if I would grant remote access. I agreed, but she gave me a web address that didn't work. At that point, she hung up on me. SAVE YOUR MONEY IF YOUR LOOKING FOR AN EASY TO USE PROGRAM WITH ACCESSIBLE ONLINE STORAGE.

NORTON SUPPORT FOR ONLINE BACKUP A JOKE

Booted pc; got message backup drive had been "disconnected too long and you need to reconnect the drive." No idea what's going on so I log in online (please note that I had to have been online to have logged in online). I try to view history and Norton says pc not connected to the internet. I try the online chat; chat is too busy to connect to me. I get a phone number for my area and website says 24/7 support. I call the number; recording says too many people right now, if I have a windows problem go online to solve it; THEN IT HANGS UP ON ME. I don't have a windows problem(I have Win8, but I have a Norton problem. And Norton obviously has a BIG problem--NO SUPPORT. IT'S 2:25 AM EST ON A WEEKDAY AND THEY ARE TOO BUSY ABSWERING OTHER CALLS BOTH VIA PHONE AND ONLINE??? I only bought this automatic backup because ad said 24/7 support by phone in addition to a chatline. FALSE ADVERTISING.

*** Support

I have an issue with Norton 360 Online Backup - it does not complete. Got support on 8/8/14 and thought that everything was OK but found it odd that the size of the free space for my online backup did not match the figures of my Total Capacity less my Existing Backups. The figures seem to be about 5GB out! Support left me running a backup of over 70,000 files and around 62GB total file size. Fine except that after 14 hours of backing up, Norton 360 stopped working and I was back to square one. So I went online for CHAT support and had one of the most frustrating and irritating sessions ever! The CHAT was very one sided with the technician taking minutes to reply with simplistic ***. The technician took control of my pc; looked at the Norton 360 screen that said there was a problem with Backup; restarted my pc and then restarted the online backup job. As if that was all that was needed to fix the problem. I then got on the Chat window from the technician that "Back up is currently running. Since it may take more than an hour, I will leave the case open. Contact us back if you still get the same error." I kept on asking the question about the figures not adding up between Capacity, Used and Free storage. Not once was there any acknowledgement that there was a discrepancy. Then the technician seemed to get annoyed that I would not let the thing go and so stopped the support session.

Norton Utilities perpetual license does expire.

Symantec - Norton Utilities perpetual license does expire.
Symantec - Norton Utilities perpetual license does expire. - Image 2
The license key for my Norton Utilities 14.5 will no longer activate my copy of the program when I once again install the program on my computer rebuilt with a new hard-disk. Bharath: You have purchased Norton utilities 14.5 which does not has support & its an older product. Bharath: We support version 15 & 16 which provides excellent features. Clint luckinbill: Norton Utilities has a perpetual license! Bharath: Yes. Bharath: If you install version 14.5, only limited features will work. Bharath: But no support for this version. Clint: I should be able to use the product until..... Symantec is out-of-business and turns off the "activation server". Bharath: Yes. That true. Clint: I don't want support. I have a licensed product and simply want to use it. Is the definition of support - "using the product"? Bharath: But No product support for version 14.5. Bharath: If you install version 14.5, only limited features will work. I am told that Norton Utilities 14.5 is old enough that technical support is no longer offered. All versions of Norton Utilities will eventually not be supported. So eventually a perpetual license holder will not be able to excercise use of the license and thus the license is in reality not perpetual. Symantec has not spell this out and so is not honoring the perpetual licenses that it sells. Clinton: Is my Norton Utilities 14.5 having a perpetual license? Clinton: ??? Sivachandran K: Norton Utilities comes with perpetual license Clinton: Does that mean that I am licensed to use the product for how long? Sivachandran K: If the product is already activated, it will be working without any issues Clinton: ??? I thought that would be an easy question to answer. Sivachandran K: Since you are trying to activate it now, you are having this issue Clinton: You will tell me how long I am licensed to used the product please. Sivachandran K: There is no expiry for the product if its activated already. Clinton: Is there a difference in installing/activating the product 3 years ago and then again installing on the same computer with a new hard-disk today? Sivachandran K: I am sorry sir since its unsupported, I will not be able to assist you with this issue. So Symantec will not terminate the use an installed copy of Norton Utilities after Symantec terminates product support. But, Symantec will not allow the software to be reinstalled if activation is required, like re-installing after rebuilding a computer with a new hard-disk.

Symantec Endpoint Protection

Bought Symantec EndPoint Protection. After I eventually found some useful information on there overcomplicated website I called Symantec Business Support to ask for advice on what files to download. INDIAN CALL CENTER. The telephone was answered but the operator did not speak for close to one minute. Then he said, "What?". Spoke to a second operator who was equally as rude. Tried to cancel the order. Was told to speak to someone in France. Seems they only employ the most unhelpful, rude people. No luck there either. Symantec support is very bad. USE AVG. THERE SUPPORT IS UK BASED AND THE GUYS THERE ARE VERY HELPFUL.
